Testing the River Seine for Coliform Bacteria, E-Coli and Enterococci ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024

by The Sun newspaper 23rd July 2024

We are pleased to have provided the water laboratory tests for The Sun newspaper, who have reported from Paris about the quality of the River Seine for the French Olympics 2024. The Sun newspaper have used the laboratory test: Coliform/E.coli bacteria & Enterococci test for river and open water.

“FRESH concerns have been raised on E.coli levels in the Seine, just days before the Paris Olympics start. More than a billion pound has been spent on cleaning the water. But a test carried out on a sample taken from the river by The Sun showed alarming results. Water testing firm SimplexHealth found “a reasonably high amount of coliform bacteria, which might be harmful to health if ingested”. Triathlon and marathon competitions are due to be held in the Seine. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, last week went for a swim to show it was safe. Benjamin Raigneau, from Paris’s Waste and Water Department, said: “We are really confident that the quality will be there.” A Team GB spokesman said it was positive all was being done “to ensure the water quality is of the standard required for athletes”
